Gender Sensitization

The PG Department of Psychology along with IQAC and NSS club, express our extreme joy on the accomplishment of today’s session on the topic ‘Gender sensitization: A life resource the world needs’. The session was handled by our alumni, Sanjana Anwar Ali, Counselling Psychologist, Yourdost, Banglore. The session enhanced the knowledge among the students about the importance of gender sensitivity and raised awareness on gender equality concerns. An elegant presentation of the topic helped the students to root out negative attitudes about gender and sexuality thereby making way for more progressive values.

The session began at 10:35 am with the official welcome address by Dr Anupama SR (HOD, Department of Psychology and NSS Program Officer). The inaugural and presidential address was given by our honorable principal, Dr U Saidalvi sir, whose talk encouraged the need to sensitize gender issues on campus as he believes that education is the catalyst for change. A short description regarding the session was given by Hajara (Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology). A memento was handed over to Sanjana Anwar Ali by our honourable principal as an expression of love and gratitude. The formal felicitation was delivered by Dr S Chitrakala (HOD, Department of Commerce) and Jisna N T (HOD, Department of Computer Science and IQAC Coordinator). They emphasized the need to promote gender equality by a way of thinking that fosters respect and compassion for others. A much-obliged vote of thanks was delivered by Ameena Anwar P K (1st year MSc Psychology).

The seminar witnessed an appreciable number of participants with 90+ students from various departments, which was indeed a great accomplishment for us. The active participation was visible throughout the session. The question and answer session followed by was flooded with doubts and queries raising gender equality concerns and issues. We are also delighted by all the positive remarks and feedbacks we received from the participants. The dedication and fortitude shown by the student coordinators, Anshidha K K and Ameena Anwar Ali was indeed praise-worthy. The session ended by 12:15 pm.
