Kerala Piravi Celebration 2023

On November 2nd, 2023, the Department of Sociology celebrated Kerala Piravi Day (November 1) with a distinctive approach by creating a model of Kerala at courtyard by using various parts of a coconut. This event not only marked the significance of Kerala’s foundation but also demonstrated creativity and cultural appreciation.
The centerpiece of the event was a meticulously crafted model of the state of Kerala using 14 distinctive parts of a coconut. The talented students involved in the making of creative kerala mapping with coconut parts showcased their artistic and technical skills to represent the geographical features of the state. Materials used were; coconut shell, leaves, sticks, ,roots, inflorescence, spathe, baby coconut etc.
The use of coconut in this unique idea which highlighted the cultural importance of the coconut tree in Kerala. The coconut palm is often referred to as the “Tree of Life” in Kerala due to its numerous uses in various aspects of daily life, from cuisine to rituals.
Students of UG and PG classes along with the faculties were being part of making the model. Dr. U. Saidalavi, the Principal has visited the event and appreciated all the students who worked behind.
The Department of Sociology’s unique celebration of Kerala Piravi Day 2023, using a coconut-based model of Kerala, not only paid tribute to the state’s history but also emphasized the cultural significance of the coconut tree in Kerala. This creative approach served as an educational and entertaining event that celebrated the spirit and identity of Kerala.
