PSYCHODRAMA

The PG Department of Psychology of Noble Women’s College, Manjeri successfully conducted an Intercollegiate Psychodrama Competition focusing on the theme ‘Creating hope through action’ in connection with World Suicide Prevention Day. The competition was held on 1st October 2022 at the College Auditorium from 10:30 am to 1 pm. A total of five team from five different colleges participated for the competition, namely, MES Keveeyam College Valanchery, Grace Valley College of Arts and Science, Jamia Nadwiyya Arts and Science College, Safi Institute of Advanced Study and Noble Women’s College, Manjeri.

The program began with a one-minute silent prayer which was followed by a thematic dance signifying the importance of mental health. The Head of the Department, Dr Anupama S R, briefed out the instructions to be followed and introduced the juries of the competition. The three-member jury included Mr Ismail (Professional Drama Artist, Rangachetana and Assistant Professor, HM College, Manjeri), Mr Jasim (Assistant Professor, Department of English, Noble Women’s College, Manjeri) and Mr Madhusoodhan (Assistant Professor, Department of Oriental Languages, Noble Women’s College, Manjeri).

All the five performances reflected the need for collective action to address suicide prevention and attempts. By raising awareness about the social stigmas that can lead to suicide and suicidal behaviours, the psychodrama presentations portrayed the need to decrease stigmatization associated with suicide,the ways in which suicide can be prevented and as to what it requires for one to become a beacon of light to those in pain.

The valedictory function began by the announcement of results. The first prize was bagged by students of MES Keveeyam College Valanchery, and second by the students of Jamia Nadwiyya Arts and Science College, Malappuram. The best performer was awarded to Aishwarya K (First year student, BSc Psychology, MES Keveeyam College Valanchery).

The jury member, Mr Ismail, commented on the performances and explained the various criteria’s that was considered for the judgement. The mementos, the certificates of achievement and participation was awarded by Dr S Chithrakala (Head of the Department, Department of Commerce). Participation certificates was presented to other groups. Hajara (Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology) expressed her joy in the success of the program. Accompanying faculties from the participating colleges shared their positive feedbacks on the same. The program came to an end with the vote of thanks delivered by the student coordinator Aysha Jinan (Third year, BSc Psychology).The program was flawlessly anchored by the students, Anshidha K K (Second year, BSc Psychology) and Nadha P (First year, BSc Psychology).
